Texas Paycheck Calculator Methodology
How we estimate Texas take-home pay using current-year federal tax brackets, FICA rates, payroll deductions, and Texas zero state income tax.
Last reviewed: May 11, 2026. The active calculator strategy is tax year 2026. Texas has no state income tax, so state income tax is set to $0 for wage calculations.
Data Sources
- IRS 2026 tax inflation adjustments for federal brackets and standard deductions.
- SSA 2026 COLA fact sheet for Social Security payroll tax wage-base information.
- SSA contribution and benefit base for the annual OASDI taxable maximum.
Calculation Steps
- Convert the entered salary or pay amount into annual gross pay based on the selected pay frequency.
- Subtract pre-tax deductions such as health insurance, traditional 401(k), HSA, and FSA contributions.
- Apply the standard deduction for the selected filing status to estimate federal taxable income.
- Calculate federal income tax with the active year tax brackets.
- Calculate Social Security tax at 6.2% up to the annual wage base and Medicare tax at 1.45%, with additional Medicare tax for high earners.
- Subtract post-tax deductions such as Roth 401(k), life insurance, other deductions, and garnishments.
- Divide annual results into weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly paycheck amounts.
2026 Standard Deductions Used
| Filing status | Standard deduction |
|---|---|
| Single | $16,100 |
| Married Filing Jointly | $32,200 |
| Married Filing Separately | $16,100 |
| Head of Household | $24,150 |
Limitations
This calculator provides an estimate, not tax, payroll, legal, or financial advice. It does not replace IRS withholding tables, employer payroll systems, or advice from a qualified tax professional. Local payroll rules, benefit plan details, multi-job Social Security withholding, special credits, itemized deductions, and employer-specific withholding settings can change the final paycheck.
For a personalized estimate, use the Texas paycheck calculator and compare the result with your employer paystub or payroll department.
